1st Wargrave Scout Group

Scouts Village Christmas Postal Service

scoutxmaspostOnce again the 1st Wargrave Scouts are providing a community service to the village, and raising funds for the Scout Group, by delivering local Christmas cards.  We rely on the participation of as many Scouts as possible to deliver the cards.  It is an opportunity for the Scouts to contribute to their community, appreciated especially by the older folk.

From Friday 4 December to Tuesday 22 December, collection boxes will be at:

  • The Library, Church Street
  • Victoria News, Victoria Road
  • Lloyds Pharmacy, Victoria Road

The cost is 20p per card, or 15p per card for senior citizens. (Royal Mail charge 63p for First Class and 54p for Second Class post).

All Scouts are invited to come to the HQ on the allotted “sorting days” to help stamp and sort the village post.  Scouts will deliver cards during the weekends of 12-13th and 19-20th December and after the final collection on Tuesday 22 December.

Each sort will last about three-quarters of an hour (probably less for the first and last and more for the middle sort).  Parents are welcome to stay and help too!  After each sort, each Scout will get a bundle of cards to deliver over the weekend.

We have allocated roads for each of the Scouts, trying to choose roads close to home for the younger boys and girls. Older Scouts may be given cards for roads further from their home, but still within Wargrave village.

If Scouts are not at the sort, their bundle of cards to deliver will be brought round to them.  If your child cannot do his/her delivery, please would you let Helen Vonka know in advance, so their road(s) can be reassigned.  Whilst Helen and Wendy Dowling are happy to help organise the sorting sessions again this year however, they would appreciate the help of some of the Scouts parents at the sorts too!

Please support the local Scout Group in this fundraiser/community service.  Please restrict your cards to addresses within the village, anything further afield is not included in our local delivery service.
