1st Wargrave Scout Group

Leader Changes at 1st Wargrave Scouts

7th November 2015.

All, I wanted to let you know some planned changes to the Troop leadership team which will take effect from the New Year.

Many of you know that I have been the Scout Leader at Wargrave for years (since 1991 in fact).  Earlier this year, whilst I was at Jamboree in Japan, I passed my 30th anniversary as an adult volunteer in Scouting. Throughout that time I have always been responsible for running a Scout Troop.  For some time I have been discussing whether I should move on to a new role in Scouting, I was always keen to do that only when we have a strong leadership team in place to continue running the Troop in Wargrave and no doubt taking it on into an exciting future.

Well that leadership team is in place.  So I am standing down as the Scout Leader at the end of the year.

Pete Walsh has been increasingly involved in leading activities and he has agreed to take over formally as the Wargrave Scout Troop Leader from 1st January.  He will be assisted by Richard, Paul and Caroline.  In the short term George Atkinson is helping too as part of his Gold Duke of Edinburgh Award.

I will continue as Assistant Group Scout Leader at Wargrave, but will have limited day to day involvement in the Troop.  I will however remain responsible for running the Troop Camp to Finland next summer.

In addition I have taken a new role in Scouting and was recently appointed as Assistant County Commissioner for the Scout section across Berkshire.  This role will require that I spend time helping to develop the Section across the county as a whole, so a new and different challenge for sure.

So, it’s been a long time coming but this note is much easier to write knowing that the Troop is in such good hands.  I am sure you will join me in wishing Pete and the team continued success in the future, and don’t worry Pete, after 20 years or so you are allowed to try and stand down!
