You may have heard through the media that the Scout Association has recently announced an alternative wording to the existing Scout promises and I wanted to give you some further information on this, without the ‘filter’ or spin some of the news organisations may have added. On the 7th October the Scout Association announced a new alternative wording for the Scouts’, Cubs’ and Beavers’ Promises for those joining the movement who have no affirmed faith or are active humanists.  The wording is the result of some 10 months of consultation and is, I think, a pragmatic  and worthy attempt to be truly inclusive to all young people without abandoning one of the core principles of scouting.
