Beaver & Cub Camp

1st Wargrave Beaver and Cub Camp 2025 will be held on 6th-8th June at Bears Rails Campsite – a Scout Association campsite linked to Windsor & Eton Scout Group, and within Windsor Great Park.

Itinerary

More details will follow as plans are finalised. However, Camp generally follows this plan:

Friday Evening – Cubs arrive, fed or with a packed dinner. Time to get settled in, unpack kit, and have time to explore the site. Leaders do safety briefings, orientation of the site, rules and dos/donts whilst on camp.

Friday Night – Cubs go to sleep (!)

Saturday Morning – Cubs wake up, quiet-ish time for the earliest hours – often unsuccessful! Breakfast and clear up (the Cubs wash and dry their own cutlery and plates/bowls)

Saturday Late Morning – Cubs start their day of Activities. On or off-site nearby. Meanwhile…

Saturday Lunchtime – Beavers arrive, with packed lunch, thoroughly ruining the adults’ chance of a peaceful cup of tea. Settle in, unpack kit, and all have lunch together.

Saturday Afternoon – Beavers Activities. On or off-site nearby.

Saturday Evening – Everyone gets together for dinner, a large campfire, and have stories, songs, and the traditional Beavers vs Cubs joke-telling competition! Hot chocolate and marshmallows round the campfire.

Saturday Night – Beavers go to bed, but obviously not to sleep. Cubs – who are usually slightly more subdued from having stayed up late/gotten up early the night before! – follow shortly after. Sighs of relief/exhaustion from adults.

Saturday Morning – Everyone up. Breakfast & clear-up. Pack away kit. Morning activities for the Cubs/Beavers, whilst some adults take the site down.

Saturday Late Morning – Reflection circle, camp awards/prizes handed out. Flag break. Parents collect children. Children usually asleep immediately on the way home.

Frequently Asked Questions

This all depends on the site itself, and what facilities are available on and around it. Wherever we go, the Leaders plan an itinerary involving outdoor exploration, games, adventure, and teamwork.

Cubs will work towards the Our Outdoors Challenge Award, the Our Adventure Challenge Award, and earn two nights for the Nights Away Staged Badge

Beavers earn the first part of their My Outdoors Challenge Award, most/all of their My Adventure Challenge Award, and one night for the Nights Away Staged Badge.

For many Beavers in particular, Camp is their first experience away from family for the night. We usually find that parents are more anxious than children!

Our experience is that the children thrive with the sense of adventure and responsibility that comes with Camp. They will be supervised throughout by the team of Leaders, Volunteers and other parents – we usually have a few Beavers parents who camp with us.

We always choose a site within driving distance of home, and every child needs one responsible adult ‘on call’ should it come to it. In the last 6 years there has only been one child who has asked to go home early – so it is very rare!

Camp needs an extended team of adult volunteers to make it work.

Camp is one of the major events of our 1st Wargrave Calendar – a time to make lasting memories, make new friends, and find new courage.

Before our Beavers ‘swim up’ to Cubs, we always ask them about their best memories of their time in Beavers. They almost always say Camp!
