The 2015 Loddon District “Great Breakfast Chase” took place at Furze Platt Scout Camp in Cookham Rise on the 10-11th October.  This year 1st Wargrave Scouts entered a team of four; Joseph Tubb, Jacob Worthington, Matthew Savin and Jude Lancaster.  The competition involved route planning a designated course on the Saturday afternoon, and then a night navigation exercise between manned bases, where the scouts had to perform various tasks in order to earn their breakfast.  During the entire event they had to carry an egg and return it unbroken at the end…..which they managed!

The team were nominated as team “Foxtrot” and allocated a 5:45pm set off time and they quickly caught up the team in front, team “Echo” and rescued them from getting lost!  Joseph was designated patrol leader with Jacob as assistant patrol leader.  They arrived back with tired legs to hot chocolate and giant marshmallows at 10:30pm having hiked a very impressive 10kms.

There were 20 teams in total and we managed a very respectable 11th place and given that our average age was 11 and most others were significantly older, the boys did fantastically well. We also earnt some much needed points towards our 2015/16 “Murray Plate” challenge total, an inter-troop competition involving all 12 troops in the Loddon District, see the current results here.

We all enjoyed a good Breakfast fry-up on the Sunday morning, before flag break at 11am and collection by parents.  All in all a really successful weekend and thoroughly enjoyable.  We shall be looking for a strong team to take up the challenge next year!
